My mother has a very large collection of shells(mainly conch and those little twisty ones) and she recently offered to give me some for my tank.

Would they be safe? I'm sure they'd raise the ph, which would be great for my livebearers, but would it hurt my BN? :( I hope not, as the shells are very good looking, especially this one conch with a rosy interior.

BN need ph of 7.0 i believe.

as much as you think shells would look good, really they dont.
i tryed some before and the looked like crap. ended up chucking them in my pond because they turned all green and nasty. looked good for about 30 sec. until i really looked at them and decided that they looked like crap in a FW tank.

Gonna have to agree. I used a couple conch shells in my cherry tank and they do look terrible in a FW. I did however smash up a couple and put them in my filter to raise the PH and add calcium to my tank.

Hmm, guess I'll wait until I turn the tank into a brackish then.
