Is It Safe To Add Salt To Aquarium

One of my fish seems to have an infection. Male guppy with white bumps by dorsal fin. I went to my local pet store and they told me to add one tablespoon of salt per 25 litres. Is this gud advice or cud it do more harm than good? Thanks

salt can be used as a treatment, but it's best to figure out exactly what problem the fish has first. Can you get pictures?

Also you will need aquarium salt, not the stuff from your kitchen.
