Do you think it would be possible to get like 10 female Discus and 1 male Angel and get it to pair up with one of the discus? Has this already been done? If so anyone got pics?

They may pair up, and even spawn, stranger things have happened. The spawn would be infertile, it would be similar to trying to breed a cat/dog.

A kid in my class brought in his cuppies. They were dog/cat hybrids but they were very ugly so who knows?

Sounds like your classmate was trying to fool you. A dog/cat hybrid is impossible. Dogs have 78 chromosomes and cats only have 38. If an egg were to be fertilized of a cross between the two, it would not be viable and would not develop. They're too different genetically to be able to hybridize. Sorry!

I hate him no!w because they looked really ugly and weird so I thought that he was telling the truth

Angels are hard to sex, unless they are spawning. I doubt that a discus and angel would pair up. Many discus & angel breeders keep them together and nobody has reported any interbreeding. I have seen surrogate parents, where an angel mated pair were put in a tank with discus eggs OR discus mated pair were put in a tank with angelfish eggs. In some cases, parents would care for the eggs and raise the fry. I don't remember what ever happened with them though.

I personally wouldn't put angels in with discus in any event, though i admit some do, not me however.

Yes paul-discus, I think everyone who actually follows Discus threads has seen you post this information about 48 and a half times

Good advice is worth repeating! I'd second what Paul says.

I doubt they would inter-breed, but even if they would why oh why would you want them to? It would be totally irresponsible of you IMO.

Excellent advice kev, so lets repeat it...
There is nothing wrong with keeping (not breeding) angels and discus together IMHO. I personally do it, on other more discusy forums and here the debate has been going on for years, some people fear losing their expensive fish to disease others to violence etc, I keep my current and past discus in community tanks with a range from neons to cories to RTBS to featherfin syno to dwarf cichlids, the only discus I have ever lost were babies less than inch that were in a bare bottomed tank by themselves. I am not so stupid to add them to my JD/Acara/Convict tank

If discuslova was just asking if anyone knew then I figure either here or hybrid is fine
If discuslova was actually wanting advice then this thread should either be moved to hybrid or locked and a new one started in hybrid

One of the great things about this place is we can have our own ideas and throw them around to each other or voice them without be attacked or flammed for it

Andrew

PS isnt that why were all here? to learn, pass on our knowledge, communicate and have fun?

Not sure what your getting at here? I was not flaming or attacking, all I said was that I agreed with Paul that Discus should not be kept with Angels. I am talking from my own experience and it was a disaster, if I had left the Angels in the tank I am sure I would have lost some or all of the Discus due to the Angels continued aggression. From what I have read this mix doesn't work out more times that it does. IMO with Discus it is just not worth suggesting to people.

Sorry if I came across the wrong way.I didnt mean you personally it just looked like it could get messy and was sorta trying to diffuse it :)

Mainly what I was saying is that you obviosly dont agree with keeping discus and angels, yet there are those out there that do, and we all allowed to have our opinions here, thereby sharing our knowledge making the pool greater :good:
