That's the only explanation - unless they're not actually pregnant - but many opinions are that infact they are.

well...now i'm debating whether or not to get a 10G for a breeding or fry tank.
I'm really interested in seeing what these fry are like, but i don't think they could be very healthy - cross breeding, but we'll see!!!

Yep I've heard of it. I've also heard it's very rare, and hardly ever happens. You really have to try to get Muppies, it doesn't just 'happen' usually. Sorry to say, your females most likely stored sperm and got pregnant on that.
