My lfs is getting in a batch of gorgeous new bettas, but I don't have the room for a biggish tank, or money either... I know a lot of you keep your bettas in a 1 gallon tank. Will they be okay swimming-room wise in a tank that size? It means more frequent water changes but I could do that... :/ I just don't know, because the bettas are so pretty there.

Yes it is okay to use a 1 gallon. Thats what I use for my bettas. But you have to do water changes every 3-4 days. It gets annoying ;p But you could always upgrade later.

I have lots of cheap rubbermaid containers a little over a gallon and they work great.

It is okay. However, I found it to be a little small. My first betta was in a 1 gallon cube-shaped jar. I found it quite small and cramped quarters for my betta. He is much happier in 3.5 gallons.

But yeah, bettas are okay in 1 gallon. I guess it also depends on size; my little guy is a little on the large side.

I have my 2 VT's in 1.5gallons and my CT in a one gallon.
