Hi all,

Just wondering, would it be safe for me to place in a piece of apple. I was going to attach to a fork and place at bottom of the tank. Mainly for the Apple snails. I know other veg is used, just wanted to know if this would be OK. I have otto's in there aswell, would they enjoy the treat. :good:

Yep perfectly safe, plecs will love it too :good: Mine munches it happily.

Thanks for the reply Guy's. Well, just to let you know I tried it last night, it was mobbed straight away by the large snails, one being a total piggy and wouldn't let the other's near for a while. The otto's had a try, but it was one of the Bala's who kept comming back for bite or too was good to watch. I've read about feeding peas, esp for constipation, but would also like to know what other veggies do people find the best treat to give to fish. That's if the snails don't get to first

courgette, lettuce, sweet potato, pumpkin, cucumber, you can try pretty much any that wont turn to mush too quickly, obviously if they dont like it, take it out again.

Thanks Minxfishy,

I must admit, one of the snails didn't like the fork I used to weigh it down, it kept lifting it's feelers up dam quick when it came in contact with it, almost like, yuk don't like this very much. Mind you it soon worked out which bit was tasty though.

Thanks also dorkhedeos,

Like most things it will be once in a while treat. I like to feed my fish alternative food stuffs to keep them happy. Plus I wouldn't want the fruit to ferment in the tank. Drunk fishies

You shouldnt use apple too often though, I dont think the sugar is necessarily good for fish.

I only just tried apple, my plecs gone crazy for it. rather glad, I was worried he wasn't eating properly
