why do so many people have ick in their tank?

have soemthing to do with the season changing?

i mean bunjiweb, missclaire(sp?) and I have ick in our tank? what's wrong? is it cause the winter is cummin and ..well i dunno?

I don't have it, and I've only had it once over a year ago. I have moved my tanks though which is bound to stress my fish so I hope it doesn't result in an ich outbreak.

='( i really dont get why i have ick in my tank tho, all my fish are healthy..or
so it seems..

Hi kevin007 :)

You could be right about that. Perhaps the most common way to have an outbreak of ich in the tank is to have a sudden drop in water temperature.

With cold weather coming on, if the household heat isn't turned on yet, the room temperature can get cool overnight and the tanks will cool along with it. During the day, they can warm back up only to drop again at nightfall.

Now is a good time to add heaters to unheated tanks, or to check that the heaters you do have are working properly to insure the overall health of your fish. :D

hmm hmm yikes!

well the discus were $20 for sick ones at one shop..

at another it was $27 for 2 healthy..wow!!!

so now i have heathy ones..the ick has cured, for my discus but my clowns stil have it

my first fish ever had ick, poor pentezona barbs, and being a newbie didn't know to much about curing it, I gave it my best shot, but they ended up getting fungal infections and all dying within 2 hours of each other (5 of them) it was a sad day I was excited about having my pentezonas (rare barb, supposed to be pretty hardy, guess my three hour trip home with them didn't go over well with them though :( poor fishies) but no other problems since then.

If your clowns still have it then it is still in your tank and your discus will eventually be afflicted with it. Read up on ich. It has a simple life cycle that has to be broken at some point. The spots produce more ich which need a host fish to attach to, in other words the rest of the fish in your tank.

i heard from somewhere that diseases are at their worst in spring and autumn.

Maybe they suffer from seasonal affectiveness disorder. Otherwise known as SAD it could be to do with changes in the Air pressure and not just the water. Who knows man... who knows which way the wind blows. :dunno:

Do a search on here on ich - there is LOADS of info. I have never had ich in my tank so have no experience of it personally :p :D *smug grin*

I think this just luck though - dont despair and dont give up treating them. Be aware though, if you have clown loaches or similar scaleless fish you need to cut most med doses in half.
