Am I the only one who finds it funny that to keep an earh-eater busy all you have to do is re-arrange the sand? :X

Nope, it is quite interesting untill it's been a few months and you get sick of doing this everyday. It is every cichlids natural instinct to move the substrate around as they see fit to create brroding craters and shallow pits. As the name implies, "earth-eaters" would be especially opt to doing to this. If you stop doing it, the fish will prob be glad cause it is prob getting sick of having to put everything back into place when you flatten the substrate back out :good:

Haha, gotta love eatheaters. They're the best.

Eventually you'll get tired of trying to rescape the sand, as they will always move it back the way they want it to be. Out of curiosity, what species do you have?

Those are excellent points. I guess there's no point in moving the sand and I was getting tired of it.

I have Satanoperca Jurupari, Gymnogeophagus Balzanii, and Geophagus Steindachneri.

Very nice. I have two full grown Satanoperca jurupari in my 125, but will eventually get rid of them to make room for my six juvenile Geophagus sp. "red head" Tapajos. If you haven't seen a picture of those, here is one. I think they are the nicest looking earth eater species out there (and the nicest looking South American cichlid IMO!).

EDIT: Just realized that you just joined and you're also from Florida! :hi:

Yes. I know about your Geophagus sp "red head" Tapajos that you were very excited to get. I'm not new I just made a new account. :shifty: And if I had room I'd like to have your Satanoperca jurupari, but I can't.

Sneaky. :ninja:

Are you upgrading anytime soon...? :shifty:
I would happily give them to you if you had the space.

Quite sneaky indeed. :hey:
But This summer I'm hoping to acquire a larger tank. I just have to work for it. But I'm sure your Jurupari will be gone by then. :/

Well, I haven't advertised them yet, since the red heads are still tiny at around 2", but if you are really interested, I'll hold onto them for you until you upgrade. I really wanted them to go to a tank with a few other jurupari, too, so I'm glad you are interested!

I can't make any promises since things don't always go as planned. But if I can't have them I'm sure they'll go to a great home. ;)

I understand. Well, I wasn't planning on putting them up for sale asap, so just contact me if/when you get a bigger tank and I'll let you know if they are still here.

You got it. :good:
And just to add, it's so weird seeing the Gymnogeophagus Balzanii chasing Geophagus Steindachneri. But just wait until mr./ms. Steindachneri gets bigger. :fun:

I've always wanted to keep G. steindachneri. They have some of the coolest coloration on their bodies and are reputedly the easiest to breed... I might try them out one day.
