Is He Up To The Job?

i have a few guppys in a tank, there are 4 females and 1 male. they have been there a while but he doesnt seem to be interested in the women! is it possible he isnt upto the job? the females arent pregnant yet but should be.

do you think i should put a different male in the tank?

p.s he is defenatly a male guppy, heating is good, tank is good ect.

What is "a while" that you are refering to here? If it's been a week or less, you may not notice all the signs right away. If it's been over 3 weeks, it's possible he is not interested. It's rare, but possible.

its around 2 and a half weeks, is it best to remove him?

There's no need to remove him. At 2.5 weeks the fish may be pregnant. You might as well wait another two weeks to see.

I would wait a while yet. You never know, he may just change his mind one night. He may have also already mated with one or two and you are just not able to tell that he has.

when you brought him was with males or a mixed sex also if he was with just males and is startin to get on a bit (bering in mind it dont take long with gupps to age as their life span aint that long ) and possibly his sex drive has come down a bit best thing to do is get a young male whats in wid females should be a little sex monster

or he could be gay

you know this same thing happened to me last winter. I bought another male, a little older that was chasing all the females at the store. brought him home and the little one basically learned from him. then he mated like crazy. he most likely isn't gay, he just needs someone to "show him the ropes" teaach him about the "birds and bees"

If he is that small, it is possible that he isnt sexually mature, and since they are kept with other males, it is possible, that he turned of hi sex drive so he isnt bullied to much.
