Is Having Snails In Your Fish Tank A Good Idea Or Are

but know some peeps on here have problems with them

so are they a good idea to have or a pain

& do they eat alglea

they eat algae, but you will have more than you will ever want within a month

apple snails are fine.. i think you can get the species that doesn't eat plants, but i'm not sure if they eat algea as i've never had agea in my tank. They do get quite big though (about the size of a fist).

how about Malaysian Trumpet Snails what are they like

snails snails snails the only snails i like are trumpet snails because they clean up but dont eat my plants.
but everytime i get new plants i find atleast 2 snails on there and some eggs.
the other day when i was cleaning the back of my tank on the outside behind the filter was loadz of seethrough bubbles stuck on my filter with little white specs in snail eggs
after i cleaned my filter i new that i had a battle on my hands eggs all over my decor and i found over 30 snails happily munching down my plants. ive got rid of as many snails and eggs is i can find but i bet theres alot more in there, might buy 1 of those snail traps

apple snails don't breed like crazy and they are not hermaphodites. They lay eggs above the water line so you can take them out if you want. i;m not sure about their temperature requirements...

You want the pomacea bridgesii type which is most of what is sold in fish/pet stores these days. These types don't eat plants but are algae lawnmowers who will eat most every type of algae you can get in your aquarium, and they are very interesting to watch sometimes.

They will not overrun your tank.....I had them for years with my goldfish and with tropical fish.....up to 7 in my 55 gallon once......and never once did they reproduce....while the fish just popped baby fish out left and right.

If you have enough of them in your tank, Malaysian Trumpets are the best as they burrow into the sand/gravel....keeping that stirred and clean during the day....only to come out at night while everyone is asleep and cleaning up what's in the tank as well.....everything from algae to fish poop is fair play for the Trumpet Snail. So don't worry about Trumpet Snails reproducing like mad, which they will....with these guys its the more the merrier.

I don't have experience with any other kind but the larger Ramshorn snails sure do look interesting (though I think they might devour plants, not sure).

I love snails and shrimp.....and if I had a tank big enough I'd have one totally dedicated to just these.

I have some in my tank that hitch-hiked in some plants about 2 months ago... there's about 15 in the tank and their no problem at all... and they help control my algae.

are the apple snails in your link Iron Man the type that eat plants and is this there scientific name Pomacea bridgesii (effusa)
