Hi all,
When I set up my nano aquarium, I ideally wanted some thin twisty bogwood but the search proved futile. So instead after a bit of asking around, I decided on the fake aquarium vines you see for sale. I plumped for this one, as it was in my local petshop and the owner assured me it was safe for aquarium use, even if cut up.
Now, my nano tank suffered in the hot weather (all plants doing fine) and I attributed the odd behaqviour of my nerite, and MTS to the high temperatures. However, there were also a couple of bubble snails in the tank which were wizzing around and munching things happily.
The bubble snails have disapeared, and the nerite and MTS havent moved for a day (the MTS finally surfaced, but have stayed still on the surface).
I know it was most probably the heat, but before I consider euthansing them (as they seem in such discomfort, even though tank tamp is now fine and water changes have been regular), do you think the wire core of the fake vine may contain copper as a constituent? or perhaps zinc? or do you think i am grabbing at straws?
I really want to check before I introduce any higher vertebrates or some replacement MTS...
