Was just wondering whether boiled water is ok to use for water changes; obviously once it has cooled down and been dechlorinated? The reason for asking is that some parts of London have had to boil all tap water before drinking due to the recent flooding and possible contamination

I boil water to add to my cold tap water to match the tank temperature (our water heater is nasty and old) so there is nothing wrong with boiling water to put in your tank as long as the pot you are using is clean and free of detergent residue.

Boiled water should be fine, just make sure you airate the water while it cools. I say this as heating water reduces its oxygen carrying capabilites. Airating the water as it cools ensure that the replacement water is carrying enough air to support your fish. However, you may get away without airating if it is a small water change (less than 20%).

The potential problem with boiling water and using nothing else in your tank is that it concentrates the amount or minerals and impurities in the water. When water evaporates, those things are left behind so when you put a gallon of water on the stove, boil it for 10 minutes and lose half pint or so to evaporation, you have less water but the same number of impurities. Using small amount to mix with colder water for water changes is fine (I just mix it at the tap) but I wouldn't use only boiled water.
