Hi, not really happy with the filter in my Rio 240L. It does the job fine as regards ammonia, nitrite etc but doesn't really seem to get the water particularly clear, always little bits floating around in it. Have been looking on here and it seems that external filters might be the way to go.

My question is, do you go with an external that fits just about the water volume in your tank or do you go up a bit?

Have been looking at Eheim Ecco 2236 (up to 300 litres) and Tetratec 1200 (up to 500 litres) which are both quite a good price online (compared to lfs anyway!)

Many thanks!

It never hurts to have a little extra filtration... it will be nice if you go over a little bit with your stocking. They also move more water the bigger they are and water movement is a big part of a healthy aquarium.

Yip, all my tanks are overfiltered.

My 2 x 65litre tanks have 100 litre filters and the 125 litre has a 300litre filter on it :)

Thank you both. I'll definitely go for either the Tetratec 1200 or the Ecco 2236 then :good: once I've talked OH into it of course ;)

Many thanks again

I prefer overfiltering. Saves a lot of problems. I have 2 ac110s on my 90 gallon.
