Is Betta Food Needed?

Ok, if betta food needed to keep them, i don't know if my lfs sells it

No i feed a varied diet of frozen and standard tropical flake with out problems, he is active, inquisitive and healthy

The food doesn't need to be specifically for bettas, but should be of good quality and high in protein.

Ok, just i won't have enough for two betta's + betta products so they will have to come in time

I love my Betta specific food. I use Hikari Bio-Gold Betta pellets. What I like is that they float. I feed 2 pellets, one at a time, at each feeding and he comes right up the surface and nabs them. I know that I have no food waste floating to the bottom of my tank. I also use thawed blood worms a few times a week. I take a shaving off of a block of worms and put it on a saucer. Then I add a little tank water to thaw it. I then lift an individual worm with a toothpick and hold it at the surface of the water for him. Again, this way I know I have no waste in my tank.
