Happy new year folks....
I want to know if i need to use aquarium safe silicone to seal my light fitting in my hood or can i use any clear silicone???

Cant why you would need aquarium safe sealant for the light but i guess its peace of mind. Some of the normal bathrooms sealants do stink because of the anti bacterial agents in them, maybe better safe then sorry. Aquarium safe silicone is always a handy tool to have anyway :good:

iu dont see why you want to seal a light unit with silicone anyway . which part is it you want to seal? a light designed for aquarium use shouldnt need silicone .

He may be using it to plug holes if he has escape artist fish or i used sealent on mine to add some LED's for night viewing :good:

good point . if you want aquarium safe silicone you can get small tubes on warehouse aquatics . if i remember rightly its only about 3 quid

I have a 300l sunsun tank and the lighting is part of the hood. The electrics kept tripping and i figured it was the light so I removed the hood and took the light unit out. (which was stuck in and sealed with silicone). The inside of the unit was very wet so I want to dry and refit the unit which will need to be sealed again.

well i got the tank and plus accessories, a fluval 306 filter and 2 x 11" plecs for £120 so i cant really grumble... the lighting is repairable and if not i can make a diy hood with a new t5 lighting rig so i am starting with the cheapest option first!

Mate, you have an Alladins cave right on your doorstep that you can get silicone etc in small tubes......see fish and fins in Hailsham
