I've been looking at LR for my 37 gal. tank. The more I look, the more differences I see. Is one better than another? For example, Figi vs. Tonga vs. Marshal Island. What is the differences between pre-cured and fully cured? Is fully cured the dead stuff? Which will I be better off with?

I am ready to order, but am not sure which direction to take. This is what I am thinking about... I already have about 15 lbs. of dead stuff. I am looking at 20 lbs Figi Premium pre-cured LR, 10 lbs. Tonga Kaelini Premium pre-cured LR, and 10 lbs. of live sand on top of 20-30 lbs. of un-live sand.

Someone please advise :/

It's all about "Personal" preference :good: . I like Tonga for the Branch and their flat rocks, I like the Fiji for the mass but lightness (they seem to be kind a hollow  ) and Marshall does have some nice color :good: . As for the "Cured" term being floated around your guess is good as mine since the rock you are buying will be out of water so there will be some die offs from tempature (it be cold out there).

If I were shoppin' I'd like to see what I am buying (somethings one "Still Has" to pay extras for choices :-( ). Besides 30 gallon tank is pretty easy fill just ask the LFS dude if they'll cut you a deal if you buy 20 pounds. I know it wouldn't be much but at least it's not going to be like a "box of chocolates" (never know what you'll be getting). But if I were to be filling a 100+ pounds worth then I'd buy a few boxes.

Tonga tends to be more branchy, but also tends to be more "solid" and as such is considered less effective than other areas for filtration (but is prized for its aesthetics).

My opinion would be to have a good mix and have the best of all worlds.

im not the biggest fan of huge ammounts of tonga but if its used to branch of pieces of fiji or marshall can look incredibly brilliant. Also Fiji is very porous so you may be able to get more for your money because a big chunk may not be as much as you think so. Always try and pic the pieces with nobly bits on and little crevices and things because it provides an intresting display and means that other pieces can 'slot together like a puzzle
