Is 75 gallon too big?

As long as the weight is distributed well over a good stand (not the wrought iron type that just have 4 legs) a 45 gallon should be fine in most houses. I don't know what the dimensions are for a 45 but a standard 55 is about 4' x 1'. That's about 600 square inches of base. The water weight of a 55 gallon is about 470 lb plus tank and stand brings it to about 600 lb. That's only 1 lb per square inch on the floor. Not much to worry about.

Whats wrong with the metal stands with the four legs? Because my long 20g and my 10g are on those iron stands. Also I'm assuming nothing will happen since its been there for like ever and its against a exterior wall.

There's actually nothing wrong with them. My 29 gallon is on one. The only potential problem though is that unless you set it up on plywood or something like that, the weight isn't distributed over the full area of the tank like a wooden stand. The weight is actually all on the 4 legs so the 600 lb I was talking about earlier is now held at the four legs meaning those points on the floor hold a much heavier load. I don't think they make those wrought iron stands for the bigger tanks though. I haven't seen one for anything bigger than the 29 gallon.

I have one for my 55, in my second floor bedroom.

The base of most stands isn't solidly in touch with the floor, but raised onto short legs - certainly Juwel stands for big tanks (incl 450 litre ones). I was really suprprised by this when I got mine, which is on 6 legs and is 70 gallon tank.
I had a wrought iron stand at one point, which didn't support the tank too well - tank cracked and bottom of it gave way.... quite a lot of mess!
