ok..
moved house over the weekend, half of which i seemed to spend emptying water and bagging fish while moving the 75g and 25g to the new place
(so tiring!-especially when chasing krib fry for half an hour!!
)
My brother helped me catch the fish, and after taking out all the plants (including a load of overgrown hornwort) I checked all the bags, and there seemed to be a clown loach missing!
We checked everywhere but nowhere to be seen....I even got to the point of shaking the driftwood from the tank to see if he had got stuck!
Eventually I gave up and decided he must have died and got eaten a few days ago, or been dropped somehow, so boxed all the bags and equipment and put all the plants in an inch of water and took it all to the new place.
After setting it all up (which again seemed to take forever, especially filling up the 75g...ouch!) I looked again in the vain hope I had miscounted, but alas the clown was nowhere to be seen, not in the filer, anywhere. One loss in a move is not too bad I told myself!
Next evening as I was doing some unpacking I decided to put a load of the hornwort back in the 75g, the water they were in by now was so cold I could only do a bit at a time....then I suddenly saw something move out of the corner of my eye.....took out all the floating plant, and there he was!! He had been sitting in an inch of water, completely submerged by plants, and was quite happily now swimming around!! I bagged him in the cold water, put the bag in the tank for 15 minutes (I'm sure I could see him shivering!) to equalise the temperature, and then let him loose, whereupon he swam back to the other two clown loaches and had a lovely swimming reunion!!
I still can't believe, firstly, how I managed to did it to the poor thing, and secondly how easily he seemed to adapt!
just thought I'd share!
