Here is their answer~
If the plants are growing more than you want you can cut back on the fertilizer and that will slow their growth down. Don't cut it out totally or their growth will show deficiencies. Also cutting back on the duration of light they receive will help too.

thanks Utahfish but i have twice the recommended ammount of laterite in the substrate already. it absorbs minerals to give the roots time to use them, doesn't contain much in itself (acts like a nutrient sponge to keep them where their needed.)
