Do I need to add iodine to the water for my 2 ghost shrimp? I have read that I do? What is the best way to add, iodized salt or drops?

I'm sure it is if not in proper amounts but everything I read says that shrimp need it.

Everything I could find online said that iodine is poisonous for fish. I'm concerned too though, because I have 5 ghost shrimp in one of my tanks.

I understand that it is necessary for coral and seawater but this is a freshwater tank and almost everything I read says add it for shrimp but that it will kill fish.

I've heard (from a very reputable shrimp breeder) that there is no scientific proof that inverts can absorb iodine through their skin. They get it from fish food and algea. He's never added a drop to his tanks.

If you're really concerned that your shrimp aren't getting enough iodine in their diet, I believe Hikari Crab Cuisine is loaded with it.

Is Hikari Crab Cuisine safe for freshwater tropicals? I know if I put it in for just the shrimp the other fish won't listen to me and will still eat at least some of it. Or is there another way to feed it?

I've never used it, but I'm sure it's safe. Hikari has it listed under it's tropical foods:

ok I don't mean to be a web snob but am I the only one surprised that Hikari's website is a basic frontpage template? I always expect big companies' sites to be custom made and most website designers (maybe all) wouldn't use frontpage and most certainly wouldn't use a premade template.

Anyway to keep this on topic  thanks for the link. I'm going to browse around their site a little.
