Hi to all,
just thought as a reasonably new person to this great hobby I would pop in this thread to break the ice as it were. I dont believe in such a short space of time that I have ever taken to a pastime with such passion and eagerness, its just fantastic. My name is James and I'm 28 from Hampshire.
I started off in September 2007 with a Aquastart 500 and from there on just have'nt looked back, and last Monday upgraded from a 65litre to 125 litre. My new tank is a Fluval Roma 125. I transfered all filter media from my old tank into the new and with just reading threads from this forum have got my new tank up to scratch with near on perfect water stats. Within my new tank I have:

7x Neon Tetras
8x Assorted Platies
2x Otto's
2x Botia Sidthmunkis

All of the above were from my existing tank and after checking the water stats today as seeing they were near perfect I went out and brought a Bullnose Pleco. And a great addition he is I must say. He was hiding for most of the time this afternoon and after all the lights went off out he came. I snuck down just to see if he was ok and he appears to be great. Also within the tank I have some java ferns on two reasonably big pieces of bogwood which again came out of my Aquastart.
My seven year old daughter was over the moon when we sent her up a coldwater tank in her bedroom for her 3 fantails with the Aquastart 500. I got to say shes a lucky girl its an awesome goldfish tank, ( a slight tinge of jealousy maybe) LOL.
I think my other half thhinks that I have more time for my fish than I do her. Still worse things happen at sea.LOL
Anyway I won't bore you good people any longer just to say that I hope you won't mind if in the near future I may be allowed to pick your brains a bit.

Thanks.

Hi and welcome iam a newbie to and Iam sure youll get lots of help here the people are pretty wonderful, I wont say to much dont want them to get swelled heads lol. Dont forget to put up some pics sure would like to see your tank. Pat :D

Hi, and :hi: to the forum

How near perfect are we talking with the waterstats? Plecos are sencitive to ammonia and nitrite, so if there are any detectable levels of these, you will probibly loose him  If these levels are detectable, you need to waterchange regularly, say 50% twice daily, untill the leels read zero, to give him the best possible chance.

Enjoy the new toy :fun:

Water stats as follows:
Ph 7.4
Amonia 0 ppm
Nitrite 0 ppm
Nitrate 10 ppm

Hope these will be ok for my plec. I think he's great. Also looking at the tank now and he seems to bee happy enough.

They don't look spot on to me

They look perfect

Should be fine for your pleco :good:

All the best

Hi James,

Your story is very similar to mine. I started last September with an aquastart 320 and have just upgraded to a 70 litre tank. The smaller tank is now divided with a betta each for my children. The larger one is going to be my community tank.

My other half isn't very keen either, he thinks it's a waste of time and money, but he is putting up with it thank goodness. But he drew the line at a tank in my son's bedroom, so the small tank is in the children's playroom and the big one in our dining room.

I think my other half thhinks that I have more time for my fish than I do her. Still worse things happen at sea.LOL
 If my OH thought that I'd be in trouble for sure...I have 7 tanks

Welcome to the forum. I look forward to your pics. I started a year ago with my first tank (a 30L biorb), I collected on average a tank a month and now I have just stocked up a metre long brackish tank. It's addictive this hobby, that's for sure :D :good:

Thanks for the replies everyone. I am still trying to find the camera, (shes probably hid it from me) LOL. Great to hear I'm not the only one thats been bit by this bug!
