Introducing Gt's

i currently have one female GT slightly over 6", i have been offered a male (4"), from what ive read it can be hit or miss, would it be a case of introducing the male and simply see if they get on or is there more to it?

and would i be right in thinking i would have to take pretty much everything else out of the tank when and if they were to breed?

I tried and failed with 6 different ones ...narrowed it down to 2....which seemed to pair off but turned out to be 2 males and 1 killed the other so gave up! lol

Your best bet would be to remove the female, do a complete tank re-arrangement and then introduce them both together, thus putting them on the same footing as regards to establishing territory (should they wish to do so). It may work, but be prepared to move the male or female if needs be and yes, if they do breed, you would likely need to remove the other fish as they are extremely territorial when breeding, more so than normal.

thanks for the info, just a couple of pics to see if any1 can 100% clarify that it is a female i have

the tank dimensions are 100cmx30cmx40cm and as said one GT is 4" and one 6", is it majorly too small or...?
if so may have to source another tank as always fancied trying to breed these

IMO 150Litres is the absolute bare minimum for a single GT without tankmates,

tbh I wouldn't even think of adding two GTs together in anything under 300Litres simply because of the aggression that they can produce in a split second, one could potentially kill the other before you have time to act

I wouldnt say 100% that is a female...could be either imo...there no stand out features as of yet.

Yep that is too small for a pair, a 4ft would IMO be the smallest for a single GT.

At a guess, I would say that is a male, due to the longer pointer anal fin.
