Hi all. Bob my bumblecat fish has started exhibiting some symptoms of irritation (sporadic rubbing). There are no real visual signs (except a (possibly) occasionaly sighted small fluke like thing near the adipose).

These symptoms have emerged a day or two after introducing a banjo catfish (these are the only inhabitents).

He looks perfectly fine.

I have performed a water change, and added a small dose of anti fungal treatment for now, and upon introducing the fresh water (after hoovering the sand) I noticed many very small white thin thread like worms (about 4-5mm long) up in the water column. Could this be the problem, or is this just something inhabiting my tank?

Thanks for your help!

Update: Yes checked the tanks this morning and its ICH. Popped straight to LFS & pets at home, and no dedicated ich/white spot treatment (can you believe it?!). Have bough bought melafix, and a few bacterial/fungal remedies etc. Have added 5ml of Melafix to the tank, after another water change. Then checked my main tank, its in there too (my own fault I used the same damn buckets). Have treated that with 5ml too after removing the activated carbon from the filter.

Will melafix be enough on its own? Should I dose once a day/week/month the instructions arent 100% clear, smells nice now though :p.

I really hope this clears up, I've taken quite some time to build up my stock, so any help (I'll read the sticky thread) greatly appreciated [all my fish are catfish].

The white worms are probably planaria. The other worms on the fish are likely a parasitic worm and those cannot live for long off of a host. Treat with parasitic meds and parasitic food to help the catfish get rid of these pesky neighbors.
