Hi;

I have a malawi cichlid that is ill! Although he is eating well and doesn't appear ill, he has lost colour and has a sunken stomach.

I have hospital tanked him and have been watching. He has been like this for at least 3 weeks now. I am not sure what the problem is. Is it a parasite or is it TB? How do I know and what can I use to treat?

Please help, I have posted before but hit a dead end

We will start of with internal parasites first, what it look like when the fish goes to the toilet, is the enus enlarged or red and inflamed, has the fish gone thin, also can you see any worm prutruding from the anus.

I will leave you a link to fish tb.

Its most likely internal bacteria or internal parasites rather than tb. Internal bacteria on the whole is a lot more common than internal parasites, as Wilder said can you give us more info on the health/symtoms of your fish?

That is exactly right; His anus does look very inflammed, he has a pitted stomach so has lost weight. But I have him in a hospital tank with a glass bottom and he is passing poo as it were!

So it sounds like internal bacteria yeah?

Unfortunately I have been treating for ich. What sort of treatment should I use, bearing in mind I am in UK.

Thank you so much!

If his anus is inflamed its most likely internal parasites then, Levamisole is an effective anti internal parasite med but you will need to go to the vet to get a perscription for it as it is not sold in shops, check out this thread of diagnosing and treating internal parasites with levamisole :) ;
