Looks as though I'm going to have to order this online as my LFSs didn't have anything specific for it. I have bought some Sera tablets which although are marked for "Internal Bacteria" also cure internal parasites according to the guy at the shop.

Does anyone know if this is true?

And if not, what should I be looking for in the UK?

I used Interpet No9 and it worked very well. I got it from a petstore chain. Don't know if I'm allowed to name them. My one fish had popeye from an injury. It's eye was very swollen and had white fluffy stuff. The eye went right down and the fish is fine now. They sometimes die from popeye so the medicine must have been good. Hope your fish are ok, or are you buying it as a standby just in case? Or are your fish ill? PS don't know anything about Sera.

Well I might be entirely wrong, but internal bacteria and internal parasites are different things and interpet no. 9 is for the bacteria.

I think the internal parasite meds are very hard to come by in the UK, but can't remember what the US stuff is called.

I have just looked at the No9 and you are right Bloozoo, sorry. Don't know what you use for parasites then.

There is no med available in the uk for internal parasites, best to destroy the fish and strip the tank down, sorry i no it's harsh but it's the only way to go, i have had them.

I'm willing to try pretty much anything other than do that, even if it's buying some meds in from the US.

Maybe, Jungle Parasite Clear fizz tabs? I',m not sure if they worked, mine were too far infected to be saved, but I'm pretty sure it got rid of velvet, and its for internal and external parasites. Best bet would be a medicated food I'd think though, cuz it gets right to th source...I think there is a Topfin brand...they sell that in UK? Otherwise, I;m sure you could get it, and shipped over....hopefully quick, good luck

There no good tryed both med my self, and the american meds don't work either if they are really infected with them, alot of fishkeepers use pig worming tablets,

It's still worth a try rather than just euthanizing the fish and stripping the tank before even trying to treat it. It has to be of some worth in order to be sold on the shelf by a well know brand. :/

From what i have gathered(correct me anyone if i am wrong), when a fish dies with internal parasites the parasites leave the fish's body and search out another one to infect, each time increasing in numbers, so the most fish that die in the tank the bigger the problem gets.
Theres no saying when the fish will die, although once it has got to the inflamed/red bum stage there's no hope for them even if you use meds, so its best if you have an infected fish to move it from the tank to help prevent others from getting the parasites if it dies suddenly.
There are some cures in the US and it appears some in the UK but from what i have gathered none are very effective and can only cure the fish very early in the desease...If you can get some meds within the next day or 2 its worth a try treating the fish but i suggest you put the fish in a container floating in the tank water with tank water in it and fill the container with fresh water 3times a day so if the fish dies theres less chance of others getting the parasite...I have had a an internal parasite problem recently with my guppys and they only lived 3-4days max after getting the red bum.

I would personally opt for euthanasia simply because even with meds theres a low recovery rate and it certainly doesn't look like a very comfortable thing to be infected with and quite painful, its not somthing you want to put the fish through for long.

I have used Metronidazole (made by Seachem). I ordered it online for about $5. Not sure about which places ship outside of US or Canada though...

Anyway, by the time I started to use the meds, it was too late as my little krib had been sick for awhile. However, there is another member here who uses it for his angel fish with fabulous results. (I think the key is to start treating in the early stages before they stop eating.)

It also does not hurt the bacteria in your filter.

And although I was not able to save my krib, the other fish in the tank did not end up infected.

Thanks for the help.

As far as I can see, there is not redness and the affected fish is swimming around normally with no other sign of distress, than white poo.

I'll do what bloo / tokis have suggested and hopefully that'll help.

WAIT A MINUTE!!!!

Just seen the fish in question doing a normal poo!!!!

Yay it must have been bacterial after all!!!!

I'm sooooo happy!
