So I'm just wondering what people would recommend using for a filter for a 40L tank?

This is going to be my 'standby' tank, in that it will be used for fry / hospital / quarantine duty.
I won't have the space to run an external (is it even worth it on this size?), and I don't think I can run a HOB as I won't be able to move that to my main tank to keep it cycled when the 'standby' tank isn't in use, so I've been looking at internal filters.
I run an Interpet PF2 in my 60L tank, which I am quite happy with, so have been looking at the smaller sizes of that, the PF1 and the PF Mini, but 40L is right between the 2 ranges.
Obviously I need something that will filter sufficiently, but not something so powerful that any fry I put it will be sent whizzing round the tank, (the Interpets at least have a variable flow, but there seems little point in buying a hi-flow filter to then turn it down).

Also I will probably need a heater, I think either a 50W or a 100W will be fine for this tank?

So recommendations please as to what you would use for filtration in a tank with these roles :good:

a microjet 40 or microjet 70 would be good! both have adjustable flows too!

sponge or box filter

Yes mate, most LFS should stock them if you have on nearby? a box filter is also quite good, its basically a plastic box which you plug airline into, its empty so you need to put your own (mature from other tank) media into it!

Ok, probably go with a sponge filter then I think as I think the box filter might be a bit big for the 40L tank, just need to think whether I will branch some air from my existing airpump for the filter when it's in the maintank, or whether to run a second airpump permanantly on the main tank too, which thinking about it now seems a waste...
