Interesting Discovery

Hi, i've just found something out that i though was interesting and i had to share it, so heres the story.

I have just spawned my platinum HMs. The male Dougie always builds the biggests nests but for some reason when he was in the spawning tank with Bluey he didn't bother, he danced around and flirted in a big way but no nest. So as she was ready and he was interested i pinched someone elses nest for him left it a day and he seemed to be keeping it up so i let her out and they spawned but the nest got a little wrecked. When i got in that evening the nest was all but gone and the eggs were on the bottom of the tank. Dougie continued to pick them up and spit them in the cup but alas no bubbles so again i pinched a nest and he filled it up with eggs. Well again the nest vanished and today was all gone, the fry had hatched but had nothing to hang onto and i had no more nests to steal so i thought about what i could do and saw some bubble wrap on my bed (from new air pump) cut off a small square and dropped it in thinking that it might give the little guys something to hold on to any way i have just gone up for a look and he has used it to build a nest under and he has put all the fry in...i was shocked nothing else had worked.

I used to use cups but gave up cause I had so many males that were lazy, I regularly use bubble wrap in my spawning tanks now as even the most pathetic betta can manage to salvage some of his spawn by placing them in the air pockets, I also put in some indian fern or any floating plants which they seem to like popping up under the nest or sometimes they will build bubbles under the plants, go figure

i did have a floating plant but he wasn't interested its odd coz he usually builds really good nests eithrt in his tank or the spawning tank. I was determined to do somethin coz it was an agressivespawning and both got a little torn up so i wasn't going to loose the little guys. Chuffed much
