hi, ive been looking at bettas and after realising they are siamese fighting fish have been confused about how they can be kept in tanks with other fish? my sister did purchase one once and the poor little thing didnt stand a chance. not that we had any warning or guidelines from the petshop man.

It seems like a lot of people on here love them, i was just curious as to why the fasination (apart from the bright colours ;)).

kind of an unspecific topic, i was just wondering :)

Males are better off by themselves. Females can be kept in small groups with other female bettas

I like bettas because they are easy to care for and have great personalities.

Why are people fascinated with guppies? Tetras? Just a personal preference

They are beautiful, and each one has its own quirks and personality - just like a little fishy person lol! Plus they are one of the few fish you can keep in a small desktop tank without stressing it out.

And they can be safely kept with some things, but you need to research that before you put something in with it, you wouldn't want to hurt any fish or otherwise, right? For example, most bettas are fine with corydoras catfish, and dwarf (NOT clawed) frogs. Keep in mind though that as each betta is different, some are too aggressive to keep with anything. And some species that are believed to be most aggressive of them all have a few individuals that are so placid you can pu them with a wider variety of creatures.

they have personality comes in hundreds of forms. And when you breed you can make you own line of olours and tail type. They can also be kept in small tanks(1g min)I have 18 so far.But can now only get females. No room left for males lol.Im also trying to breed at the moment so need room for them aswell.

i want one but not allowed to get one yet :( but i know ppl with them and from ppl on here once bitten you love them forever :)

I think bettas are absolutely wonderful
They were my first fish and (sorry other fishies) they will always be my favourite!
I think I love them because of their unique personalities, stunning colors and finnage, and just because their grumpy face makes them look cute  They also so not need a huge tank!

i just love them, there individual personalities, there little wiggle dances, there bubblenesting and they bond really well with there owner, my 2 have both bit me before but i still love them, then i have 4 females in a community 3 of them are so gentle 1 is a little more aggressive but keeps it within the other bettas not my guppies or tetras, i had 2 years ago when i first started out and have loved them ever since but only got my 6 since march what else can i say other than they are great compainions :good:

so if i were interested...how would i go about finding the right sized tank and who would be the best suppliers? Are lfs ok for bettas?

well both my guys and the 4 girls are from LFS but most LFS depending on where you are usually stock mainly VTs around me anyway, as for tanks i keep my 2 males in a Elite tank, Royals one is a old 2.5 gal bowfront version can't remember which but Blazes is a newer 3 gal concave tank.
Here's a picture of my 2s tanks. old Royals on the left Blazes right:
