Hey all. I currently have a 20 gallon tank - containing 5 platies (4 females 1 male) 3 Mollies (2 female, 1 male) 3 very sweet female bettas, and a few apple snails. I love livebearers, and really want to get into more usual types. I do have an empty 10 gallon and was thinking of setting it up again, any suggestions on what I could put in it, if anything?? Thank you!!!

Heterandria formosa would do nicely in a heavily planted 10 gallon.

Agreed. Alternatively, consider using the small tank for raising fry. A 20 gallon would work nicely for homing some of the smaller poecilids, halfbeaks, or goodeids, and you could then pull any fry you find and raise them in the 10 gallon tank. Being able to raise a full brood of livebearer fry without worrying about predation/cannibalism is very nice.

Cheers,

Neale

Raising fry is best for a 10 gallon. I use my smaller tanks mostly for raising fry. In a 20 gallon you could keep some goodeids. There are a wide variety of species that are readily available. I get most of my fish from private breeders on www.aquabid.com. Its much preferable to most pet stores in that you can ask the breeder directly about water parameters and diet. And there is less of a chance of sick fish because they aren't usually crammed into tanks like they are in pet stores.
