Well I went to my not so lfs today to look at rainbows for my 55 gallon. When I got there the rainbows were pretty expensive :S Melanotaenia boesemani were $12 US each, Melanotaenia praecox were $8 US each and then were quite a few other types ranging in prices. So I decided to wait on the rainbows and instead walked out with some really neat Rasboras called Rasbora Vaterifloris :D They are a beautiful orange color with the tops of their eyes kinda neon orange. I also picked up 2 more diamond tetras. So my stocking ideas have changed a bit and right now in my 55 gallon there are 10 Rasbora Vaterifloris and 8 Diamond tetras. Tomorrow I'm going to look at a pair of pearl gouramis.

I intened to stock the 55 gallon like this

pair of peacock gudgeons
pair of some type of dwarf cichlid
pair of badis badis badis
and a shaol of rainbow fish

Maybe I could still keep a pair of dwarf cichlids/badis badis badis or peacock gudgeons in the 55 gallon? The bottom is free as the rasboras and tetras stay in the middle/top and the pearl gouramis will be at the top as well.

I've got a 28 gallon ready and waiting so if none of those will work in the 55 gallon I'll use the same stocking ideas for the 28 gallon just downsize on a few things. :)

Wow I never knew that! So after reading through your post I gathered that they are not considered endangered because they dont fit the criteria??

I'm 100% sure mine are tank bred as the place I got them from is www.akvarielagret.se and they are the best of the best when it comes to fish and wouldn't stock the fish if it was endanged and wild caught.

They had about 30 or so of them for sale. I got mine for 25 SEK which is £1.82 each.

I think they are stunning fish. Their orange colors are just  I cant seem to find many pics on the net of them that capture their true orange color though.

What are you keeping yours with? Mine are actually kind of shoaling with my diamond tetras :p They arn't shy fish at all. I actually had my diamond tetras in another tank by themselves (til I stock the tank with what I want) but they were acting very scared and hiding on the bottom so I decided to move them over to the 55 now they are acting like completely different fish. Out and about all swimming in the current and at the top of the tank with the rasboras.

I added mine to my blackwater tank (62gal)
see my profile for the full list of fish they are with.
