I have found some interesting pictures on Flickr some of which I haven't seen and some of which are from Aqua Journals, I thought I would share with you guys because I find them really inspiring.

Looked at the first pic and thought ....... I didnt realise just how small that Amano guy really is ...

......then it dawned on me

Some very cool pics. I could just sit and look at those tanks all day.

haha - that second photo actually looks very similar to Paulio's tank

Great shots Neil - always nice to see some new pics. I love the first layout in your second post in particular. The stone and wood combo is awesome and I've always loved ferns. The hairgrass works really well too.

Thanks for sharing mate. I for one will never grow tired of seeing Amano's works of art .

Thanks Oldwhitewood, or would you perhaps be alright with OWW? Or shall I call you by your given name, which I know?

I really enjoy these pictures. The first one (the one with Mr. Amano looking very tiny) inspired a rather long and silly response a while back that was pretty entertaining. I think we outlined a book on maintaining very large aquaria. I think building a Nuclear power plant to provide electricity was a chapter, and we had a contribution from NASA of an article on building sealing rings in canister filters.

I especially like the second photo in the first set. Very beautiful. I also like the second photo from the second set. It's great to see natural-looking angels. I never liked the fancy varieties.

llj :)

I wonder if Amano has ever done a brackish or reef design.

There are several reef setups in ADA HQ.

IMHO not a patch on the plants though.

Well interesting point. I have been thinking about the reef tanks in there too. Certainly the live rock in the tanks is very interestingly arranged. Most reef tanks consist of live rock being pilled up against the back wall as if laying bricks, then being stuffed with softies, hard corals etc. Amano actually tries to aquascape the live rock which I find fascinating. That said I don't know how much aquascaping and layout design you can actually do in such a setup, I wonder how Amano approaches that it raises all sorts of questions.

I dont mind what you call me, OWW is fine if a little scary, as if you have banged your toe or something

There are so many of these Mr Amano's marvelous tanks .... does anybody know what sort of time scales
are involved in the lifecycle of one of these tanks ?

I'm just curious as to how mature some of these setups are when displayed/photographed and how long they
are left in place before being broken down and re-scaped ?

I imagine foreground/carpets are added complete, rather than adding a few and growing it over a few weeks/months.

Interesting, he 'scapes the live rock? I would love to see his assortments of coral and with the corraline algae his reef must be absolute heaven.

I would like to see a mangrove tank and/or a seagrass tank, those would be kinda of challenging. I actually have the plans out for a 29 gallon seagrass tank, I would like to steal some 'scaping ideas from Amano if he had one.

Well the scaping of live rock idea is totally my own reasoning I have no concrete evidence to back up my claims! :D
