Insects Of Some Sort...

Hello fish people,

I need some help, I've just opened up the lid of my tank and found a load of tiny insects skipping about the top of the water, i haven't seen them before first time i've noticed them if they've been there for a while. I have no idea what they are and how i can get rid of them!

Any ideas?

They are springtails, they aren't on that guide don't worry .

They are totally harmless and eat algae, bits of fishfood etc from the surface of the water, small fish eat them. They only live around moisture so wont spread from the tank, its not really worth the bother of getting rid of them, just try keep the tank cleaner if you don't like them.

If you want rid of them anyway, washing the tank in salt water is meant to work.
