Hi,
I am not sure where to post this so I will try here and if it needs moved OK. I went into my guppy tank tonight to feed them and to catch some young fry that had been just born when I came across an insect of some sort that I have not seen before. It is hard to describe so all I can say is it looks like a miniature scorpion. Feelers out front 6 to 8 legs and a longish body/tail behind the legs. It was about 1cm in length. I fished it out with a net and put it in a little container with water in it and it was swimming about in it.

Can anybody please advise what it could be.

Thanks.

Hi,

Thanks for all the info. No it is not that. It has a narrow body. Just looking at it just now. It has 6 legs and looks like wings or something on its back. Weird

Thanks

Hi chazer and welcome to the forum. :hi:

A photo would help ID it. Unfortunately, I'm not certain we have many insect experts here. It sounds as if it is simply some type bug that won't cause any problems and just somehow ended up in the tank. From doing a Google search (and searching the forum for insect treads), it sounds as though it could be a damselfly larvae.

When in doubt about a hitchhiker, remove it from the tank. DF larva can eat your fish. They are predatory insects. :(
Would be neat to house it in an empty tank and 'raise it up'. Bugs are neat and fun to watch. (just make sure the bug you have doesnt turn into a biting bug in it's adult life, LOL)

Hi folks and thanks for all the help. It actually looks like a mini dragon fly. Just got a shock to see something like that in my tank and haven't a clue where it came from. As I said I fished it out straight away and put in a little container. Little blighter. Will see if I can get pic of it and post it.

Thanks Again.

p.s. Just because I'm from Scotland no jokes of it being the Loch Ness Monster. lol

Yes but brown and beige stripes.

Looks like some kind of dragon fly larve we get them in the rivers here all the time.

Hi,

Been trying to take a pic of it but No good. Camera lens not strong enough just coming out blurred if to close and to small further away. Does anybody know of a web page with pictures of the type of insects it could be then I can have a look to identify it.

Sorry.
