Hi, I have just upgraded my tank. The question is, whats the best way of introducing some of my mature media into my new tank to speed up the cycling process? My new tank as an internal filter, i currently have a fluval 205 in my old tank. I cannot fit my fluval to my new tank.
I was thinking of taking one of the sponge filters out of the fluval and cutting it to size to fit in my new filter. Would this work? any other tips? How much would this speed the cycling process up?
Obviously i don't want to take too much media out of my old filter.
Thanks

I would take the sponges from the 205 and give them a good squeeze into the new tank near the new filter. This will certainly dirty the water but the filter should clear it in a couple of hours and become nicely seeded with bacteria.

How much quicker do you think the new tank will mature by doing this?
thanks

it could instantly cycle/mature it. I did this with my brother-in-laws tank. He added a few fish, tested every day for a week.....never saw a sign of ammonia or nitrite.

just add the fish you wanted over several weeks whilst keeping a close eye on your test results to be sure.
