Hey everyone, I started a fish database over a year ago, and lost interest after a couple months. I started messing with it again last month. I made some improvements in the layout, made a button to swap to and from metric units, and started adding more fish to it.

Please take a look and let me know what you think.

The purpose of the database is to enable usefull searches. Other sites are more pretty, and have more fish profiles, but are not searchable and sortable by any field.

Hopefully I'll stick with it and keep adding more fish to it.

I also plan to add pics for as many fish as possible - I'll try to snap pics at my lfs so I don't have to worry about permission to use other people's pictures.

its a good database but the siamese fighting fish is some wrong info min tank size can go down to 1g, the lower the tank sometimes is better... good database otherwise

I like it :good:
Except you haven't got pearl gouramis (my favourite fish) on it!

I think I'd add something in the "sensitive" column for some fish - about them not being happy unless the tank is mature - for panda and pygmy corys and neon and cardinal tetras for instance. You could just put something like "tank 6 months+" and explain it at the top.

You could always ask people for pics they don't mind you using.

I will always be tempted to add more information and explanations for each fish, but I decided that the purpose of this database will be for searches and a quick reference. That is why I linked a more complete fish profile for each fish. (I used this site's fish index for all entries unless there was not one on this site for a particular fish)

Hmm, I have been having a hard time deciding what to do with that column. It was originally labeled "OK for cycling?" with entries like "good for cycling", "OK for cycling", "not recommended for cycling" and "only for mature tanks". However, I decided to remove any referece to cycling with fish and changed it to hardy/sensitive. Perhaps I will add another column for general comments like that.

I am definitly interested in corrections for any information I entered incorrectly. Thank you for your comment on the Bettta minimum tank size. However, at this time, I will leave it at as it is at 2 gallons.

For each fish, I looked at at least two seperate sites for fish profiles, usually 3-4 sites. If there were differences in information, I tried to use my best judgement to choose what to put in my database. With all the cross checking of information, it takes 15-30 minutes to enter information for each fish.

Anyway, thanks for the input! I will continue to add more fish to it, since the database is only marginally usefull now with only 91 entries.
