Inle loach (Petruichthys brevis) or Rosy loach (Physoschistura mango)?

Need a bottom dweller for my Inle tank. TWS has both of these for sale at the moment, and both sorta fit the biotope. I've never kept either species; don't have room or $$ for both. Both are about the same adult size; both look like really cool little fish. Rosies seem to be more colorful and also cheaper so I could get more; Brevis is slightly more authentic to the biotope and, well, they look really cool. Thoughts? Experiences? Recommendations?

I've never kept either one but if my wallet wasn't choosing it'd be P Brevis. They're so close I don't think you could go wrong either way!
Agreed. As far as behavior, size, breeding habits, they seem to be basically the same fish. Just look slightly different. I would be interested to know if anyone has reason to think otherwise.

The Badgerling thinks the brevis are a little cuter. I'm going to have to save up for a bit and maybe do a little side teaching/publishing to raise the funds, so I have some time to think about it.

For a smaller aquarium definitely rosy loach (10, 20 long ...); for a larger tank a nice group of inle loach. Both a bit cooler than other loaches 72-75 range (clown loaches for example love it very warm). If your tank has a bunch of tranquil fishes definitely rosy as inle loach will be much more active and possibly curious. This is from a quick 10 minute reading never owned either. I have had golden, yoyo, clowns and zebra and these sound closer to yoyo.

If i had a free tank of appropriate size i think i would consider inle red tail given their greater activity. Hum. Maybe i will try both and report back in 4 months.

ok i ordered both. The inle will go into my tap water 180 with 16 zebra loaches and the rosy will have to go into the 10 with a couple of norm kili. If you can wait 4 months i'll comment with some first hand experience ;)

Well, with the speed at which I get anything done around here, that might be about right. ha ha I'll look forward to hearing about your experiences, and hopefully have some of my own to share.

i'm not sure what your biotope is but these two species (which are the primary available fish from their respective genus) with rosy loaches located in shan state myanmar and inle loaches located in well the same place shan states myanmar. I guess you are doing a shan state myanmar biotope ! I guess you will be adding a bunch of celestial pearl danio !

Hmmm, the bows seem to get cranked out pretty regularly. Maybe all the air spent blowing that fancy flugelhorn is leaving you tired and breathless? 🤪
TBH I'd go with what the Badgerling likes. She'll be a teenager soon if she isn't already and, well, you know what they say about payback.
Angry teenage girls are the scariest thing on the planet.

It's a Lake Inle sorta-biotope. As far as I've been able to tell (and not being able to afford to hop on a plane to Myanmar), Rosies live in the Inle drainage, and though they aren't documented in the lake itself, it is probably that they do live there, sticking to the vegetated margins and inlet streams. Brevis are definitely in the lake itself. Other occupants include Sawbwa resplendens and a three spot gourami, which isn't native but has been introduced to the lake.

I average about one finished bow every year or two. That's my speed...And don't worry about the Badgerling. She's pretty easy to please overall. She just likes cute things. :)

I kept 10 rosies in a 20g long planted tank & was given a lone inle. The rosies were very people shy, the inle less so. I thought the rosies prettier but didn't see them as much. I don't recall what other fish I had in that tank, CPDs? tiny rasboras?

I gave the rosy loaches to a club friend that had quite a few in a 180+ tank. The inle died out somewhere along the line, I don't remember finding a dead body, it may have been old.

I would also say the Inle seemed much bigger than the rosies by both length & height...but both small.
Rosy loaches reminded me of pygmy corys in a way by more than just body shape. Sort of mid water swimmers, sort of more bottom fish.

I'd keep either again, both were cool in different ways.

Edit
Oops, I did it again. It wasn't an Inle it was a m. cruciatus. Sorry, I've made that mistake before & it sticks in my mind.
