Injured Bala Shark...

I have an injured bala shark,, the picture is hard to see but its top fin is torn and has red on the bottom of it and it has a red spot on its left side... aggression or sick or it being a skiddish fish hurting itself? what can i do?

Is he still kept with the 2 black sharks?

yes sadly... but they are leaving ASAP... (check the buy/swap/sell) i think it may be the reason... ive been looking at getting another bigger tank but after this they have to go now incase it is them,

I'd certainly think that it is aggression then, keep him in perfect conditions, maybe add a little melafix and keep an eye out for other infections on the wound.

Have you got a hospital tank you can put him in?

thanks germ... always reliable umm... melafix? can i just buy that at my lfs? need to take a visit there tomorrow anyways for crickets and fishfood...

Should be able to, its widely available in the U.K.
Remember though, you must keep the water as perfect as possible, so extra water changes and good gravel vacs, to reduce the risk of further infection.
Can't emphasise this enough.

Just seen Lyndas post, hospital tank would be advisable, easier to keep clean, easier to monitor the fish and no chance of further harrassment from other fishies!

thanks germ,... it acctually is the best time for this situation to come up because i am off a lot over the rest of this week and next week from work so more water changes and careful watching is guaranteed.

No sadly i dont have a hospital tank... ur right tho,... they are beautiful... when i saw them i had to get them,,

Any chain store that sells fish should carry it, too.... but your better lfs definitely will. If not, you can order it on-line.

I was just thinking, if you don't have a hospital tank, you could get a divider when you go shopping and keep everybody safe that way.
