Hi everyone i am very new to this whole kind of thing
Iv always wanted to keep fish ever since i was small, my mum and dad have kept marine fish, i thought id go for the next best thing (cheaper) and went for African mbuna.

I went out and bought a 5ft Rio Juwel aquarium 400 litres does anyone know what this is in U.K gallons??

I have spent around £200 on Rocks, Coral sand, Equipment etc.
I think it looks really good.

I have bought 9 mbuna to help get the biological filter working, once it is im not sure how many mbuna i should keep in this size aquaria?

Im also not too sure what fish i have bought the guy in the shop was very helpful and told me all the names (Latin) but i didn't really take any of the names in :(

I know i have some mixed Zebras and 2 Yellow Caeruleus, if i try and take some pics would someone please identify them for me?

thats about 88 uk gallons, or 105 us gallons...

have you read about the nitrogen cycle? that is the first step to setting up an aquarium (other than acually setting it up)

as for fish, with africans you sorta want to overstock them to keep aggresion to a minimum, this is pretty much the only fish you can do that with... i would say proably 30 or more fish in that tank

Thanks for the reply :D
Yea i sort of know about it.
Iv bought a Master testing kit that tests the Nitrate Nitrite Amonia and PH i tested them all earlier and they were all on the right sort of levels.
Do anyone know of any other colours apart from Blue and Yellow?
I have seen a picture of one called a Red empress which i think looks really nice but dont know whether or not it would be compatible?

Blue and yellow applies to most of them, in one shade or another. Shapes, and markings differ of course. Iodotropheus Sprengerae is a unique one, Acei can be a nice violet, and a few species are bred as albino, red zebra is orange. There's a few anyway.

The Red empress is a Hap. It grows to about 9" and should only be kept with mbuna with care. They can look after themselves, but too much aggression and activity will stress them out.
