Info On Starting Cichlid Tank

alright there looking at starting a cichlid tank i know there is loads of different sorts but the main info im after is

whats the best to use sand/gravel or that eco stuff?
planted or rockery?
temp of tank ( if not the same as tropical)

and any other info would be great

There is a big variety of cichlids out there, from Africa and the Americas, they all required different temps, pH, tank size, substrate etc etc. I think you're looking at this back-to-front, the fish comes first, the tank setup after to suit...so choice what you want and then look at how to keep them and what you'll need.

You need to look at what cichlids are available to you, have a read of what they are best suited to environment wise, and start figuring out what tank setup you'll need. You may find http/aqadvisor.com come help, it is okay but can be prone to telling you fibs. For me it is a good indicator and if I question something it has stated I can always double check it somewhere else. At the very least the site give you an idea of what pH range you need to have, and what will go together in your tank size. Just put the tank size and the fish you want in, and you'll get some feedback.
