my featherfin is staying in one corner of tank and doin like a lil dance and hasnt moved from the corner for a couple hours now he's just been doin this dance kinda thing not moving positon just shaking kinda don't know if anything is wrong or not

Introduce yourself first and you may get more replies

Anyway your featherfin may be doing a couple of things. We need to know what set up you have, how big your tank is, what tank mates, what water parameters you have. This would come out if you made a thread and introduced you and what you have, plan on doing

Could be aggression wrning to others? Could be territory marking? could be defense against other tank mates? could be a few things. Help us help you :good:

sorry bout no intro. Hve never been on here before. Figured out what was wrong with the featherfin. Ammonia too high he died yesterday morning but we were able too rescue his tankmates just in time an oscar named sunshin about 6 in and a pleco about 5 inches named loverboy. And a feeder goldfish that the oscar hasnt eaten for 3 weeks his name is wally. The first problem we had was not lettin the tank cycle the fish were put in after only an hour after tank was filled. Second problem was filtration i tried too tell my hubby that what we had wouldnt work but he was adement about using the new tank we got. Third was overstocking just recently learned that feeder fish are not the best choice in feedin oscars and thats what we were previousy feedin him. Currently it is pellets and brine srimp. However trying to find out what kind of plants the eat in the wild so i can offer him better choices. Thankfully we figured out the problem just in time too save the others but i will miss my cheetah (featherfin) he was about 6 inches. We are still workin on a bigger tank as i know an oscar needs 55 gal by himself and the pleco 40 gal.

No problem about the comment, just thought Id let you know as some people are funny like that
Sorry to hear about your featherfin :rip:

How long has the tank been running for? you want the filter to turn over around 5-10 times the tank volume, so a 50 litre would need a 500litre per hour turnover.

Feeder fish are certainly not well accepted on this forum as there are many a gold fish fanatic that may take offence and reoport any user/comments. Besides the goldfish can carry diseases that may do alot of harm and no good to your fish. Spirulina flakes may help boost the vegy content in the diet for the oscar, all my cichlids love the stuff.
Check HEREfor oscar food and care guide
The pleco will love the plants, pleco wafers, cucumber, corgette, lettuce etc

If your looking for a tank, and are in the UK , THIS WEBSITE has Cheap tanks, but are perfect as i have one myself, there imported from china but the company is a british one down south. I bought a 330 litre tank with hood, cabinet, T5 Lighting, Heater, filter, filter media, algae magnet, syphon all for £330!!!! Thats 4 Foot tank

Hope this helps

thank u all so much he was such a beautiful fish. Thankfully we did rescue his mates just in time however another passed today he was a feeder goldfish that the oscar wouldnt eat they even toched noses and he didnt eat him. He was pulled into the bottom of the filter. :(

is it necessary too have rocks in bottom of tank with oscar and pleco? Right now we have none due too needing too clean them and havent put them back yet was just curious had someone tell me they will die without rocks

If you do have rocks make sure they are safe for the Oscar and pleco. Also oscars like to push things around a ton. If it is a bare-bottom tank make sure to make the rock big enough so the oscar doesn't move it and scratch the glass or acrylic.

Also, I hope your tank is big enough for your pleco and oscar. They both grow to be quite big. ;)

currently have only a 55 gal tank workin on a 75 or 125 i know they both need a lot of room to be healthy and happy. Am thinking about trying to hand feed the oscar he is very laid back and he recognizes me when i walk in the room now he does this lil up and down swim type thing like he happy too see me. Prolly sounds crazy hugh. But with my luck its prolly a defense mechanism or something lol

Nope your absolutely right! Oscars recognize the people who feed them. In fact they get lonley if they don't see you for a long period of time. They could even get board in their tanks. :)

its ma'am and i think it will go well he hs very good disposition. We had a feeder in the tank that he didnt eat for 3 weeks its the one that got stuck too the filter. They even touched noses and he didnt eat eat the goldfish. Have been getting him too come too top of water when he eats and goin to be brave enough soon too dangle a peice of food for him too take. He is not very agressive compared to some oscars i have seen he is very docile

new problem oscar has tiny white spots on him not sure if ich they dont look like granules like salt just lil spots everywhere and they are white but i dont know what ich looks like for sure
