I'm considering buying some.. but I'm wondering.. they usually sell these in bulk. But will I ever need very many of them? I don't have very many bettas. Do you change these occasonally, or do you just drop one in and leave it there forever?

i change them every 3 weeks so they dont rot and change the pH too much. Although for wild species such as foreschi they like a real low pH like 4.5 - 5.5 so leaving them in forever would be ok :)

I use them in all my blackwater fish tanks, I just leave them in and stay in until they disitegrate and then vacuum the debris from the leaves up with each water change. Never have any huge ph swings or anything and this fish love them!

That being said what size tank are you considering using them in?

is the purpose of the leaf just for covering ?? I have silk lilly pads (made for ponds) on my tanks... is that suffiecent or is there another purpose for the leaf?

BTW... My boy (Skylar) made his first bubble nest!!! I guess he likes the company of "his" girl (in the tank next door).

They recreate blackwater environments, staining the water brown and softening the water.
They are ideal for making very soft water with a low ph for breeding species of wildcaught anabantids, tetras, rasboras, discus, pretty much anything from a softwater environment.

They do create a more natural shelter, and can also provide a media for infusoria to grow on.
