Well, my silver lyretail had two underdeveloped fry and still looked very much pregnant. Now it is a week later, and she's done it again: two underdeveloped fry, and still very pregnant. Is she stressed out? What should I do? I really want to save these fry, but not at the expense of my mollie! Any quick responses would be appreciated!!!!

I bought a 5 gal. tank to put my molly in a week or do before she drops, I have alot of females dying due to stress of being chased while giving birth. I leave her in there for no less than 24 hours after giving birth. This has worked out great for me...Good luck

Well, this afternoon I noticed that she looked a little thinner, but still pregnant. Sure enough, there were three still-born fry (at various stages of development) and 1 live fry. Needless to say, she promptly ate the live one as soon as it tried to swim (not sure why it was out in the open and not hiding like I thought it would). I'm really confused as to why she keeps dropping fry every so often. She wasn't being chased around at all, so I'm not sure why she would be stressed (I didn't notice any clamped fins). Thanks for your advice!!

That figures that she'd eat the healthy one. :/ It maybe that her next batch will all be extremely healthy. We noticed with guppies that sometimes their first batches aren't so healthy but the rest are AOK. Good luck!

Well, that's good news to hear. I was worried that she just might not be able to carry all of fry to term! And I was a bit miffed when I saw her eat the live one! This is my first attempt at saving the fry, so maybe I'll wait until the next batch to try to get as many healthy ones as possible. THANK YOU!!!
