im 18, jobless, as of a few weeks ago. and i have no actual idea of what i want to do with my life career wise :( , i've been searching for jobs but just cant seem to find anything, i've looked at apprenticeships but i dont think i've seen one and thought 'yeah, i would actually love to do that'. im not in college, i've looked at college or home study courses which you have to pay for, i've narrowed down my future plans to something to do with working with animals, i found a few courses but just cant find out what they could actually leed on to afterwards and if jobs will come easy after, im so confused aaaaaaahhhh :( lol

anybody else have the same problem of not knowing what they wanna do :( ? or is it just me haha

I was the same, but I've quite looking for a job I'll enjoy, I will literally do any job if I can find one, which for the past few months is none at all.

I was in the same boat a few years back. Finished my A-levels, and didn't really want to go to Uni.

im in the same boat as you =] im 18 as well iv got no clue what i want todo when i leave collage. im thinking of starting up my own business

wow so im not the only one thats had this! all my friends seem to have everything sorted and know what they want to do, then theres me. i just find it so confusing. i think i would take just about anything for a job right now, im desperate lol i need to plan what i want to do but i cant think straight, i'd like to find a job i enjoy and that i could get somewhere with. but i just dont know. ahh life is confusing sometimes :( lol

It's a hard time in your life. Everyone is in the same boat at one point in life. The decisions you make now ultimately shape the rest of your life and future for you. I would advise you don’t do anything that you are not comfortable in doing. Eg. Don’t go work in an office if you like getting your hand dirty. In this moment in time I would also say don’t rush into doing just anything. It might help if you write down all the things you enjoy doing then try to narrow it down into possible job/career roles.

yes it is indeed! it gets me stressed out. but thank you for the advice my friend :) i shall definitely have to do that :)

I'm nearly 60 & I still don't know what I want to do lol
I always wanted to work with horses, & at 21 was about to start my BHS training.
My dream was shattered when sadly my father died 3 days before I was due to start, & as he had left no will, the finances were uncertain, so I wasn't able to do my course.
I worked in several yards as a general stablehand but they were small local yards, & couldn't provide any real training.
I've done all kinds of work over the years, but always regretted not being able to follow my dream.
If you really want to work with animals, look into volunteering at an animal shelter, or even at a vets, sometimes that can lead into the kind of job you want.

Stay in school. Education should really come first, not just doing any job you can as you'll find there are a lot of people out there with the same idea as yourself.
Speak to a careers advisor in your local college or university.
The worst thing anyone can do is start working a full time job and not attend further education at your age. All anyone can see is the money and once they've got used to it they don't want to let that go and go back into education.
I left school at 13, had work from then until every day up until 3 years ago. I had a car crash and that left me with no choice of going back to go back into construction or a lot of manual labour, the only thing I was used to. I'm now in college, uni course but through the college.

I am only 16, and I stumbled on my career by chance. I would never of thought I would be in this job, and I love it! My best advice is try something new and different! If you don't like it you can always walk away. :good:
Good luck!

thanks for checking out my post and for the advice guys, means a lot :) its good to hear a bit about other people and what they do and what they would like to do, i've always dreamed of being a pilot on the RAF, as my great grandad worked in the raf during the 2nd world war, and i seen all his pictures of the planes and places he had been and heard his stories, and then ever since then its all i wanted to do but i know the chances of that happening are like 10000000000000-1 as i've researched all about it, it has to be one of the most difficult jobs to actually get into i've ever known, although it would be so rewarding :)

i have looked on the internet for jobs working with animals in my area and i just cant seem to find anything, maybe i should go ask around shops and animal shelters about how they went about working with animals.

Local Vets are a good place to start.
If they think you're really serious about working with animals, they will often let you watch them at work.
I can remember as a teenager, my mother wanted me to be a vet, & her vet let me help out at weekends.
It wasn't for me as I'm squeamish, but might be worth a shot for you.
Just don't give up on your dream, if you fight for it, you can get it it.
I wish I'd fought harder

i shall look into that, thanks. :) aw! id like to be able to get into that, id love to give animals a helping hand when they need it, i hear its quite good money as well :) thanks for your wise words lol! its people like you that give me that little bit more confidence or motivation that i need :D

I still wanna be a vet. Right now though ive got a landscaping and a mailbox/lamppost painting business. For a vet you first need to do 4 years regular college then 4 years medical school. Kind of the turnoff for some but if it's something you like go for it. I'm gonna try it. It does pay rather well.
