im looking into getting an in-wall tank, i think that would be awesome!! does anyone know anything about them? i cant seem to find much info about it on these forums.

What is it that you need to know about them. As far as I know, they are mounted in to a wall with a space over top for easy cleaning. In order to avoid unsightly HOB filters use an internal filter (canister). Lighting can be either directly on the aquaruim by use of a hood or attached to the underside of the wall (if you know what I mean). The latter allows for bogwood/driftwood roots to stick out of the water along with flowers from the plants you might wish to grow.

Also you might need to reinforce the wall in order for your wall to support the weight of a filled aquarium-it really depends on the internal structure of the wall and what size of aquarium you were thinking of.

I know it's not much use without the link, but I can't remeber it. Anyway I saw a page where a guy had a huge tank installed in his wall, and basically from the front it looked like it was just a part of the wall, but behind it there was a separate room where all the filters and equipment was. It had a drain in the room to pour water down and looked AWESOME!!! it was about 8ft by 3ft by 3ft I think, and he obviously spent a LOT of money on it, but it was truly stunning!!!

I used to babysit for some people who had a saltwater tank in their wall. It took up the WHOLE wall - you could see right through it from the living room to the baby's room, and the light from the tank was the baby's nightlight. To this day, I don't know where the filters or heaters were, or how the tank was maintained... but it looked AMAZING!!

One of my friends from back in the day had a tank in a wall in their basement. Like people here are saying, from one side, the tank looked to just float in the wall. On the other side, there was a section of wall as long as the tank, and about a foot high that swung up for water changes. The light was at the very top of the swing out and just had a powerful light to shine down that extra foot. They had a canister filter and air stone and all the cords went out one side of the tank to a shelf they had built to hold everything.

I'm sure there is more to it, but I just can't remember that far back.

My 75 gallon is going to be in a wall, not because I favor it over the conventional method, but because I have no room in my house to put a tank that big without sunlight shining all over. If it could be conventional that would be great, because now we are looking at reinforcing the entire wall and building a stand for the larger out sticking front half to rest on. My tank is a regular tank though, I'm not sure what the difference would be for a tank designed to go in a wall would be. :)
