I was debating whether to put an in line heater into my 55 gal...

At the moment it has a 200w heater in there, but the suckers don't work to well now and it has started to dangle, now if i do get an inline heater, would i need 2 to distribute the heat? i have to externals running on the tank.

And are they reliable?

thanks

They are popular with us planted tank lot because it minimises the amount of equipment in the tank. They are reliable. Just make sure you fit it the right way up ;)
Also, it's a good idea to put a piece of tape over the dial (which controls the temperature) so that it doesn't accidently twist if knocked during maitenance. Otherwise you could biol your fishies :X

I am using 2 hydor eth heaters on my two externals and they're great, but as Radar has pointed out the dials can easily be knocked. I could never use an internal heater again on any tank with external filters or a pump providing circulation....these are great
