In a five gallon tank can I fit some pygmy corys in with a betta and how many? If not, are there any other fish/invertebrates/amphibians/anything else that can go in with a betta in a 5 gallon?

a good filter (matured and cycled for 6 months or there around) can support 2" of fish/gal. so a betta is say, 4 inches, you could fit a group pf 6 pygmyes in there. id be hesitant tho, as cories need lots of bottom space and bettas like loads of plants. id say plant it up and get 20 cherry shrimp and start alittle srimpy colony. true the betta will eat little shrimps, but with lots of plants some will survive and keep the colony going.
just my 2 cents.
cheers!

what about frogs? Will they mix the sand when they walk? And how easy is it to feed them with a betta in the tank?

Frogs can be tricky to keep as they fan often struggle to get food although with only a betta in there then it shouldn't be too much of a problem if you feed bloodworms.

Adf's are fun to watch but they do tend to hide away alot of the time so if you choose frogs then be prepared that you may not see them for days on end.

Personally, I'd go with a betta and 4 Pygmy corys and increase the Pygmys to 6 after 5/6 months when the filter has matured

2nd Pygmy cories are wonderfully fun and cute to watch. Right now I have four and they seem to have enough to feel confident (they never hide or anything). Keep in mind, once you put them in there, it'll be nearly impossible to get them out AND vacuuming substrate will be a bit more challenging. lol My pygmies kind of blend in with my gravel, so I have to carefully clean the tank ;)

Sounds great then, my stocking will be:

1 Male CT Betta
4 Pygmy Cories(then 2 more in 4-6 months)

Of course, I'm thinking ahead. I have yet to start a fishless cycle!

Im really glad to hear that your thinking ahead. Doesn't happen enough in these parts sometimes.

Good for you!

and Good luck with the tank!
