i'm going to be going to thailand and vietnam this summer. i went to thailand last year and at a huge market in bangkok some of the most beautiful bettas i've ever seen were being sold.

i know people from southeast asia ship fish to customers through aquabid, but i am wondering if it would be possible for me to bring back a fish? and if so, what does it take?

I've heard of people just sticking them in their purse and taking them with... :shifty:

They could see it in a purse when it goes through the x-ray thingy. I thought about doing it from the UK in April, but figured I would get caught. I don't know though, it may work. I don't know if it would be worth the try though, b/c if they did find it, what would you do with it, or worse what would they do with it, when you couldn't take it.

I would think it's the same (if not easier) as if bringing a live animal. You'd have to ask the airline you are traveling in because some airlines have different rules. People from over there ship them oversees all the time eitherway.

Not that you were planning on smuggling any out of the country, but I just read an article about a woman who was busted going through customs with 51 live fish (looked like plecs in picture) in 15 bags tied underneath her skirt. The customs officials became aware when they heard thrashing noises under her skirt.

Very helpful site. I'll have to bookmark that for further reference.

thanks for everyone's help. now who knows if i'll go through with it, it seems like a lot of work for just a fish or two.
