Okay, so my bettas finally started spawning. I'm worried though. Dante isn't putting the eggs in the nest at all. He's to busy flaring at the female when she's in her paralyzed state. What should I do? Do the eggs have any likelyhood of survivng on the ground?

It might take him a while to realise what to do. One of our males missed the first 4 lots of eggs before he cottoned on and Mum went down and quite happily ate them all. How long have they been at it for?

Few minutes. They've finally started putting them in the nest now, I'm afraid they're eating some in the process. Should I take them both out afterwards because of this?

Let them carry on for now. As soon as she disappears away from the nest and he starts chasing her away take her out and leave him there. This process took about 2 hrs with my spawns so keep a close eye on them and good luck. Let us know how things go :good:

Leave them in until the male starts chasing the female around a lot instead of wrapping with her. If they're eating all the eggs, I'd take him out. If it's just some of them leave him in and remove her when it's done. Sometimes they'll eat the ones that aren't fertilized...

Well things are truely starting to look better. They actually know what they're doing now! :hyper:

That's great news :good: don't forget to keep us posted and don't miss any of the action either...it's amazing to watch :good: :good:

most of my first time spawners eat the first 100 or so eggs and manage to leave some at the end, dont remove the male even if he looks like he is eating them, the chances are is that he is actually stopping them from getting fungus and may at times hold some in his mouth for a while. removing him doesnt achieve anything, without him raising eggs into fry is the hardest thing to do and not advised for the new breeder. even i dont attempt it i truely believe there are ways around getting the eating eggs issue.
