The algae magnet for glass tanks , should i put 1 in?

and decorative backrounds? who has them , are they good? I have cords that I want to cover up

Being a cheapskate, I use black bin liners for backgrounds, except on my large tank where I got a proper black background thrown in for free.
Haven't used the magnetic algae scrapers.

thx, cheap is always good, I like it :shout: but how do u hold up the background , with some tape on the outside?

I have a black background taped to the outside of tank. I just use a sponge on a stick to clean the algae from glass when I do my water changes. :)

Yeah, like Cheffi says an algae magnet isn't really too important as there are other ways of cleaning algae.

I never used to have a decorative background on my tank, now I do I wonder what I was thinking about! Backgrounds do so much for the overall look of a tank so I would say get one :good:

:hyper: I just bought my background and its deep blu and then it shades to lite blu, it looks very nice, marine like

i only used a deorative background on my tank when i had malawis and thats only cos i think the rocks i used in the tank where the rocks used for the photo in the background they looked that alike.

i do have an magnet algae scraper thingy too but i find it doesnt get rid of some of the tougher algae that grows so its not that helpful anyway.

I reckon the blue backgrounds look awesome-i use a magnet and it keep the algae down if you use it once a week-at least you cant scratch the glass

Nice..post some photo's. :)

yes i will show to you all when my gf comes here with her digital camera. Im very proud of my tank, Crikey , its georgous!! its like a beach theme. It took me nearly 2 wks to get it rite and im still not finished!

Hi cleekdaFish :)

I like having a solid color background on my tanks but want to caution you against making the same mistake I did.

When I moved last year I decided to buy some fancy (and expensive) dark blue backgrounds for my tanks. It looks beautiful, but when I take pictures it reflects the light and has caused me to lose a number of otherwise good pictures. It also scratches off very easily.

It's this one:

I have the same problem with my blue and black backgrounds (on my 35 and 75g respectively), the pictures just don't look good if the fish is right in front of the background.

On the other hand, my 29g brackish tank has a nice natural algae background, and it looks great :)
