Hi all. I bought a Cascade 1200 from a friend when i first set up my tank and he said he thought the impellor was what was making it noisy. If it is i desperately need a new one!!

There's an underlying hum, but then the really annoyingly noisy rattle over the top of it which means you can't sleep and makes it a pain to watch movies and tv.

Please let me know what you think and tell me where i can get one.

Thanks,

Pete

I had exactly the same problem with a filter bought brand new. I cured mine by taking the impeller out and making sure there was no play between the magnet, the shaft and the impeller blades...It stopped the rattle completely! Blissful silence... :good:

If this is an external filter try holding it upside down a minute or two while its running - may very well have an air lock, which is the usual reason for 'rattling' noises in most filters. Alternatively, give it a bit of a shake - you get the idea.

I have to this with mine after its been cleaned as inevitably the sponge element retains some air after it has been out of the canister.
